Balaji comes with over 30 years of Investment and operational experience in India. He established Intel Inc VC investments in India in 1998, investing over $80M in over 15 early stage companies. He also developed their investment and strategy, portfolio management through observer positions and shareholder engagement.
He then established Carlyle Asia Venture in India in 2000 and hired an investment team and helped $170M Asia Fund Raise. He then established Aureos India PE fund in 2004 raising $100 Million and making 13 investments. His role involved fund raise and investor management, team hire and mentoring. At Aureos, his team completed all 13 exits and return of capital to Investors.
He then went on to become the Managing Director of Abraaj India and was a core member of $1B Abraaj Health fund – A sustainable platform from Marquee LP’s. At Abraaj, India, his role involved fund raise, team Hire and in-charge for India operations for the fund. He was also an investment committee member at Abraaj India health fund. Additionally, he led $250M investment in Care hospital – 5th largest hospital chain in India, and also led the $130M investment in Big Basket.
Balaji completed his graduation in commerce from A.M. Jain College, Chennai, and is a Chartered Accountant securing an All India Rank of 48 in the Final.
Balaji’s is passionate about building a sustainable world, and has also undertaken private initiatives to help the under privileged, and supports over 300 students in their academic program.
